What to look for in a good travel plug adapter
- Check the pins. Real adapters use solid brass or nickel-plated prongs that feel rigid and stay straight after repeated insertions, not the soft, shiny metal that bends if you look at it wrong.
- Grounding matters. A three-prong grounded adapter should have a visible, functional ground pin or plate, not a cosmetic nub that doesn't actually connect to anything.
- Fit and tension. Push it into an outlet and it should sit snug and flush; a loose adapter that wiggles or falls out under the weight of a charging cable is a sign of cheap tolerances.
- Rated wattage, fuse included. Look for a printed amperage or wattage rating and an internal fuse; adapters priced at the low end of that $9 to $22 range often skip the fuse to save a few cents, which is exactly the part you want when you're plugging in a hair dryer on foreign voltage.
