What to look for in a good fm antenna
- Dipole arm material. Look for solid copper or copper-clad steel arms, not aluminum foil tape that oxidizes and drops reception within a year.
- Cable shielding. A proper antenna uses RG6 coax with double or quad shielding, while cheap ones run thin unshielded wire that picks up hum from every appliance in the room.
- Connector build. Check that the F-type connector is machined metal that screws in snug, not a soft stamped tip that works loose and cuts signal mid-broadcast.
- Arm length and tuning. Each dipole arm should measure close to 29 inches to match the FM band properly, since shortened or uneven arms mean weak, drifting reception no amplifier can fix.
